Freeze Property Taxes

Mississauga residents are paying more than their fair share.

We have less than half of Peel’s population, yet Mississauga taxpayers cover approximately 58 per cent of Regional operating costs and 62 per cent of the Peel Police budget. Brampton pays only 38 per cent of policing costs despite now having a larger population.

Mississauga has raised this issue, but residents are still paying the same unfair share. We need a councillor prepared to make changing the formula a condition of supporting future Regional budgets.

I will:

Fight to replace the outdated 62 to 38 police funding split with a fair formula based on population, service demands and calls for service.
Return every dollar saved through a fairer formula to Mississauga taxpayers, not new spending.
Push to freeze the City portion of residential property taxes for up to two years.
Protect police, paramedics and other essential services.
Review which Regional services could be delivered more efficiently by Mississauga while keeping police and paramedics Regional.
Challenge rising policing, ambulance and water costs through greater transparency and independent financial review.

The Province passed the Hazel McCallion Act and promised Mississauga greater independence, then reversed course. If Queen’s Park will not let Mississauga stand on its own, it must at least ensure our taxpayers are treated fairly.

Fix the LRT Construction Mess

Ward 7 has carried the disruption of LRT construction for years. Businesses have lost access, customers and revenue while residents have dealt with traffic, noise and constant uncertainty.

Supporting better transit does not mean accepting endless delays.

I will demand:

A firm public timeline for completing construction, restoring Hurontario Street, testing the line and beginning passenger service.
Clear monthly progress reports, not vague construction updates.
A Metrolinx-funded relief program for affected Cooksville businesses.
Reimbursement for construction-related costs incurred by the Cooksville BIA, including cleaning, signage, marketing, security and business support.
A dedicated Cooksville business liaison to regularly visit businesses and resolve access, delivery and construction concerns.
Safe sidewalks, visible business-access signs and reliable loading areas throughout the remaining construction.
Metrolinx funding for dedicated outreach around Cooksville Four Corners, coordinated by the City, Peel Region and qualified community agencies.
Regular outreach connecting people experiencing mental-health, addiction and housing challenges with appropriate services.

Construction cannot be allowed to leave Cooksville’s businesses, residents or vulnerable community members behind.

Stop Overdevelopment

Ward 7 is already carrying more than its fair share of Mississauga’s growth. More towers cannot continue to be approved without the roads, transit, parks and services needed to support the people already living here.

I will:

Oppose excessive height and density that does not fit the surrounding neighbourhood.
Fight developments that would worsen traffic and parking problems.
Demand proof that roads, water systems, transit, parks and community services can support a proposal before voting for it.
Protect stable neighbourhoods from inappropriate high-rise development.
Require developers, not existing homeowners, to pay for the infrastructure their projects require.
Push back against applications that substantially exceed the City’s Official Plan.
Give residents a meaningful voice before decisions are made.
Oppose taxpayer-funded incentives for developments that provide no clear affordability or community benefit.

Ward 7 needs responsible planning, not an open invitation for developers to build higher, pack in more units and leave residents dealing with the consequences.

Keep Our Streets Safe

Residents should feel safe walking to Cooksville GO, visiting local businesses, waiting for a bus or taking their children to a neighbourhood park.

That requires visible enforcement, safer roads, real scooter accountability and compassionate outreach around Cooksville Four Corners.

I will:

Fight for visible foot and bicycle patrols around Four Corners, Cooksville GO, parks and repeat crime locations.
Create a Ward 7 safety table involving police, residents, businesses, bylaw officers and community organizations.
Push for better lighting, faster removal of abandoned vehicles and stronger enforcement against neglected properties.
Accelerate speed humps, bollards and other traffic-calming measures on dangerous streets.
Push for major reform of the shared e-scooter program, including stronger sidewalk enforcement, lower speeds in busy pedestrian areas and clearly marked parking locations.
Establish firm removal timelines and financial penalties when scooters block sidewalks, transit stops or accessibility routes.
Require scooter operators to publish complaint and safety data for Ward 7.
Support ending the shared scooter program if reforms fail and operators cannot keep pedestrians safe.
Pursue regular mental-health, addiction, housing and peer-support outreach around Cooksville Four Corners.
Measure success through connections to services, fewer recurring safety incidents and safer public spaces, not simply by moving problems elsewhere.
